Cheery Dragon Canal Hotel Hangzhou – Intangible Cultural Heritage Hotel Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Cheery Dragon Canal Hotel Hangzhou – Intangible Cultural Heritage Hotel feels like stepping into a beautifully curated piece of Hangzhou’s living history. This five-star property doesn’t just pay lip service to local culture — it actually weaves traditional craftsmanship and heritage into every corner of the experience. The lobby showcases genuine intangible cultural heritage elements, from intricate silk work to traditional tea ceremony displays that aren’t just for show. You can tell immediately that this isn’t your typical luxury chain hotel trying to fake local authenticity.
Prime Canal District Location
The location on Lishui Road in Gongshu puts you right in the heart of Hangzhou’s historic canal district, and honestly, couples have it figured out — they’re rating this spot 9.0 for romantic getaways. You’re walking distance from the Grand Canal’s most photogenic stretches, where you can catch those early morning shots without the crowds. The neighborhood has that perfect mix of old Hangzhou charm and modern convenience — traditional teahouses sit next to contemporary galleries, and the morning street food vendors know their craft. I mean, being this close to authentic local life while still having luxury amenities? That’s the sweet spot most travelers are hunting for.
Rooms That Respect Tradition
Each room strikes this interesting balance between contemporary comfort and cultural storytelling. The design incorporates traditional Hangzhou elements — think hand-painted screens and locally sourced textiles — without making you feel like you’re sleeping in a museum. The beds are genuinely comfortable (important after long days exploring), and the bathrooms blend modern fixtures with subtle nods to local aesthetic traditions. What I appreciate is how they’ve managed to create spaces that feel both luxurious and authentically rooted in place, rather than that generic international hotel vibe you get everywhere else.
Dining and Practical Perks
The buffet breakfast actually deserves mention — it’s not just the usual international spread but includes proper local Hangzhou specialties alongside familiar options. The restaurant showcases regional cuisine with ingredients sourced from local producers, which you can taste in the freshness of everything from the tea to the seasonal vegetables. And here’s something practical that matters: they offer free private parking, which is honestly a huge relief in a city where finding a parking spot can turn into an expensive headache. Small details like this show they understand what travelers actually need.
Why Guests Keep Coming Back
There’s something telling about the fact that this place has more repeat guests than most other properties in the area — people genuinely connect with what they’re doing here. The staff seems to understand that luxury isn’t just about thread counts and marble surfaces, but about creating experiences that feel both indulgent and meaningful. You’re not just staying somewhere expensive; you’re staying somewhere that helps you understand Hangzhou’s cultural depth while keeping you comfortable. That combination of authentic local immersion with genuine five-star service? That’s why guests keep returning, and honestly, why this place stands out in a city full of luxury options.
The concierge service in Hangzhou arranges private West Lake yachts, Longjing tea masterclasses, and backstage passes to Impression shows.

Reviews of Cheery Dragon Canal Hotel Hangzhou – Intangible Cultural Heritage Hotel
Not 5 stars by European/American standards – OK value for price despite some unpleasant surprises – Paula from Finland – 12 June 2025 (8/10)
Beautiful facilities, a clean and spacious room with modern facilities and a comfortable bed. Service was rather friendly, and the staff tried their best.
What could be improved: – Room service ended already at 8 PM so we couldn't order any food…
– I couldn't use the swimming pool at 7 PM on a Thursday, because it was rented out to a local swimming school (i.e. not hotel guests!). This surprising detail wasn't mentioned anywhere, and when I asked the reception, they couldn't tell me when this swimming class would end… Anyhow, the swimming pool wasn't as beautiful as in the pictures.
– On one night, we were asked if we wanted to get some wine or tea from the lobby bar; we didn't. When we wanted to order some wine the following night, the receptionist said they didn't have any. This was perhaps due to a language barrier, but I am still confused…Overall, very good value for your money. But would have appreciated the ability to use room service and the swimming poo – Kamilla from France – 16 May 2025 (7/10)
Great location!
What could be improved: Room service ended around 8pm. The spa was impossible to use because there were schools doing swimming lessons and the staff failed to provide that informationVery generous safe and just next to the beautiful scenery of the river – Alexandra from Italy – 5 May 2025 (10/10)

What could be improved: Breakfast was at my first stay amazingNice hotel with No facility at all – Kang from South Korea – 6 October 2024 (7/10)
The location is amazing
Staffs are friendly
What could be improved: Its my second stay.
I came back because the room was nice and the location is amazing
However,
The swimming pool was almost impossible to use since it was full of kids and filled with all kind of lessons that it did not have a single lane where adults can swim.
Locker room was horrible.. smelled awful
The gym, its cardio machines were mostly broken and seemed like ages ago since last time it was cleaned.
And the opening hour was 2pm to 9pm🤷♀️
I had to adjust my schedule to fit into its opening hour
You shouldnt say you have a gym and a pool where guest can use
The gym is almost nothing
And the pool is a kids pool just sharing the building.
In addition to that, every day after cleaning some stuffs were not refilled that I had to make a call to get them.Exceptional – Hao from Canada – 1 September 2024 (10/10)
The hotel is located in a beautiful area of Hangzhou with many restaurants and artistic shops and a temple close by. It is just steps away from the Jinghang Canal. The facility is great. The staff are helpful. The breakfast is amazing.
Very good – Chan from Hong Kong – 4 August 2024 (8/10)
the location, friendly staff
What could be improved: housekeeping seems very busy, not to clean up our plates, teapot etcthis was my second stayed in this hotel. will highly recommend to friends who visit Hangzhou. – Chow from Malaysia – 23 May 2024 (9/10)
Breakfast is excellent. Location – canal is excellent with beautiful landscapes for morning exercise and night lighted up was beautiful.
What could be improved: Bathroom glass partition – toilet bowl and shower area no privacy. Should have tinted with on/off film which available in China easily. Currently might suitable for coupled, not suitable for sharing with friend/ relative.Exceptional – Kristaps from Latvia – 27 March 2024 (10/10)
What could be improved: Almost no English speaking staff
Great stay, really enjoyed it. Not enough time to enjoy the facilities but would come back – Emily from United Kingdom – 6 January 2024 (10/10)
Beautiful rooms, great location next to river but far from city centre.. staff was great and the breakfast was amazing
What could be improved: Seemed far from Xihu
