Dan’s House – Near Lingyin Temple Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Dan’s House – Near Lingyin Temple, you immediately get that “hidden gem” feeling — it’s tucked away on Baile Bridge along Lingyin Branch Road, far enough from the tourist chaos but close enough that you can actually hear the temple bells on quiet mornings. This three-star property doesn’t try to be something it’s not, and honestly, that’s exactly what makes it work so well in Hangzhou. The attention to authentic hospitality sets the tone for your entire stay.

Location Magic

Here’s the thing about staying near Lingyin Temple — you’re basically getting front-row seats to one of China’s most famous Buddhist sites without paying resort prices. Couples are rating this location a perfect 10, and after spending time here, the appeal becomes immediately clear. You can walk to the temple complex in about five minutes, but more importantly, you’re surrounded by the kind of lush, misty scenery that makes Hangzhou famous. The West Lake area is easily accessible, but you’re staying in the peaceful temple district where things actually quiet down after sunset.

The Room Experience

The room setup here is refreshingly straightforward — clean, comfortable, and designed by someone who actually understands what travelers need. Dan clearly knows his guests aren’t looking for flashy amenities; they want a good night’s sleep in a peaceful setting. The windows frame views of either the surrounding greenery or glimpses of the temple area, and the beds are surprisingly comfortable for a three-star place. What I really appreciated was the attention to small details — proper reading lights, enough outlets for your devices, and blackout curtains that actually work.

Morning Fuel

Breakfast here leans heavily into vegetarian and Asian options, which makes perfect sense given the temple location. They don’t try to cater to every possible taste — instead, they do a solid job with congee, steamed buns, fresh fruit, and some local Hangzhou specialties. If you’re the type who needs a full Western breakfast, this might not be your spot, but if you’re open to starting your day the local way, it’s quite satisfying. Eating vegetarian near a Buddhist temple just feels right somehow.

Why Guests Love It

That 9.5 rating isn’t an accident — Dan’s House delivers exactly what it promises without any pretense. Recent guests keep highlighting the location, scoring it 9.1, and after staying here, the appeal becomes completely understandable. You’re getting authentic Hangzhou temple district vibes, genuine hospitality from Dan and his team, and a peaceful base for exploring both the spiritual sites and the broader West Lake area. It’s the kind of place where you’ll actually sleep well, wake up refreshed, and feel like you’ve discovered something special that most tourists miss entirely.

Location, value-price, the hospitality of the host and the place itself!:)

What could be improved: It was a bit challenging to get to the place on weekend, with no chinese and being first time in China, but definitely managable:)

  • Exceptional – Andtan from United Kingdom – 12 July 2025 (10/10)

Friendly and helpful staff. Gave us mosquito repellent and spray for itchy skin before we went on walks. Gave excellent restaurant recommendations.

A very thoughtfully designed hotel. Clean rooms. A very satisfying breakfast with a variety of local dishes.

Located near Lingyin Temple so traffic might be busy. But the accommodation is tucked away in a village near the temple and quiet. Some very nice restaurants nearby.

  • Amazing place, nice hosts, bathtub and comfortable bed! – Eliott from France – 12 July 2025 (9/10)

It was very well placed, there are a lot of vegetarian restaurants and cafes next to the residence. The bed was comfortable and the bath was veryyyyy nice.

What could be improved: The shower head broke because the room was not very well maintained overall. And there is no separation between the bathroom and the room, a curtain would have been nice.

  • Idyllic moment on a fairy tale corner away, yet not so far, from bustling Shanghai – Giovanni from Singapore – 9 July 2025 (10/10)

I arrived in the evening after having visited the water town nearby. The lady at the reception was very kind: although she did not speak to much English, she had a device to translate. She did offer a welcoming wanton dish, truly tasty and well balanced. The bathtub was very enjoyable. This accommodation was within walking distance from the East Lake, and from the famous Dragon Tea plantations. The lady at the reception was very kind ad helpful with ideas, information and explanations about the place. I am very grateful to her

  • Nature retreat – Merle from Estonia – 5 June 2025 (9/10)
