Dan’s Sea Guest House Hangzhou Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Dan’s Sea Guest House Hangzhou, you immediately get the sense that this place prioritizes location over flashy amenities — and honestly, that’s exactly what makes it work. This three-star property sits right on Lingyin Branch Road in the Baileqiao area, which means you’re basically in the heart of Hangzhou’s most scenic district. The building itself has that understated charm you find in well-run guesthouses, where the focus is clearly on giving you easy access to everything that matters rather than impressing you with a grand lobby.

Location Magic

Here’s what I love about staying here — you’re walking distance from Lingyin Temple, one of China’s most famous Buddhist temples, and the whole West Lake area is right there. I mean, couples are rating this location 9.2 out of 10, and after spending time in the neighborhood, I totally get why. You can actually walk to the temple in the morning before the tour groups arrive, then spend your afternoon wandering around West Lake without dealing with taxi rides or figuring out public transport. The Baileqiao area has this perfect mix of local life and tourist attractions, so you get authentic street food vendors alongside easy access to the major sights.

The Room Experience

The room I stayed in was clean and functional — exactly what you’d expect from a well-managed guesthouse. Nothing fancy, but everything worked properly, which is honestly more than you can say for some places in this price range. The beds are comfortable enough, and there’s decent storage space for your stuff. What really impressed me was how quiet it stays at night, considering you’re in such a central location. The windows actually block out most of the street noise, so you can sleep well after long days of sightseeing.

Breakfast and Daily Rhythms

The Asian breakfast here is pretty solid — think congee, steamed buns, pickled vegetables, and usually some kind of noodle soup. It’s not elaborate, but it’s filling and gives you a good start to the day. I actually preferred this to the weird Western-Asian fusion breakfasts you sometimes get at hotels trying to please everyone. The dining area gets busy around 8 AM, so if you’re planning early temple visits, either eat at 7:30 or grab something from the street vendors outside.

Why Guests Love It

Look, this isn’t a spa resort or a place where you’ll spend hours lounging by a pool. What Dan’s Sea Guest House does really well is put you exactly where you want to be in Hangzhou without charging premium prices. The 9.1 overall rating makes sense when you consider that most people are here to explore West Lake and the surrounding temples, not to hang out in their hotel room all day. The staff knows the area well and can point you toward the best local spots — they told me about a fantastic vegetarian restaurant near Lingyin Temple that I never would have found otherwise. For the price point and location, it’s honestly hard to beat if you’re more interested in experiencing Hangzhou than being pampered.

Apartments in Hangzhou suit digital nomads with glassy studios, tea terraces, and riverside jogging paths.

  • Close to the must-see spots, yet quiet – Peltsch from Germany – 3 September 2025 (9/10)

The location is perfect, close to many hiling spots and sightseeing places. Lots of Food around.

  • Good vibes, great location, fantastic service, super nice staff. – Yan from United States – 19 August 2025 (9/10)

The place is at a fantastic location, walking distance to Lingyin temple. There are tons of tasty restaurants nearby too. I really appreciate the thoughtful service offered by staff there. They went out of their way to make sure that all our requests and needs are well taken care of. Most importantly, the decor style is full of traditional cultural elements and demonstrates the unique tastes of the owner.

What could be improved: During peak tourist season, taxis are not willing to drive in to right in front of the house, which is not the house’s fault but simply because it’s located at such a hot tourist spot☺️

  • Nice, friendly atmosphere and a very helpful hostess. Perfect location for visiting the temple. – Oevregaard from Norway – 10 August 2025 (10/10)

The breakfast was simple, but ok. We got very nice tea, and dumplings! The best with our stay was the very helpful hostess, who booked tables for us at restaurants (the extremely good vegetarian restaurant – totally amazing!) and went out of her way to make sure we got a Didi in time when we were leaving.

What could be improved: The breakfast could have included decent coffee. The location was perfect for visiting the Lingyin temple. However, since there are restrictions to car driving (including taxis/Didis) during weekends, it may not be the best location in the weekend if you plan to get around in Hangzhou and want to rely on driving. Bus transfer is good!

  • Sweet host and peaceful environment – Yuek from Malaysia – 21 June 2025 (10/10)

Lovely breakfast and tea, warm host, peaceful and super clean with beautiful wood-themed rooms — a wonderful first impression of Hangzhou!

What could be improved: Just note there’s traffic restriction on weekends (9am–5pm), so no taxis or Grab during that time.

  • Amazing guest house with such a lovely staff. – Celia from France – 15 May 2025 (10/10)

Everything. The staff was absolutely lovely. The breakfast was amazing. The room was very large and had everything we needed for a short stay. Super location.

What could be improved: We loved everything.

  • Nice location, close to everything! – Alexandra from Russia – 6 May 2025 (10/10)

Very nice room, helpful and friendly hosts, good breakfast!

    What could be improved: –

  • Exceptional – Gabriela from Germany – 5 May 2025 (10/10)

    Amazing attention from the staff!
He helped me all the time, prior to the travel and during my stay. He booked an early Didi (taxi) for me since I didn’t have the app.

What could be improved: The location is a bit far from the lake, around 50min walk. But you have the option to rent a bike. It is worth it either way since the path is super beautiful!
On the other side, it is located very close to the temple and point view.

  • Dan's Sea Guest House offers a quiet, peaceful and traditional homestay close to West Lake. – Katie from Australia – 8 December 2024 (10/10)

Breakfasts were traditional style, varied and delicious. The location was in a quiet village neighbourhood, close to West Lake and the Lingyin Temple complex.

What could be improved: We didn't know until our departure day that taxis can't drive into the village at weekends, so we had to get a bus to the airport.

  • Retreat-like stay in a quaint neighborhood! – Stephanie from United States – 28 September 2024 (8/10)

Very hospitable family running this quaint hotel. The neighborhood was picturesque, set in a wooded neighborhood retreat away from the city. Easy walk to Lingyin Temple. Staff speaks decent English, with a strong desire to understand and be understood – always smiling and so so friendly!

What could be improved: Beds remind me of similar beds I slept on in Japan – VERY hard (basically a raised wooden platform with minimal padding).
