The Azure Qiantang, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Hangzhou Overview
First Impressions
Walking into The Azure Qiantang, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Hangzhou, you immediately understand why this place commands attention along the Qiantang River. The lobby feels grand without being stuffy — there’s this perfect balance of contemporary design with subtle nods to traditional Chinese aesthetics. I mean, you’re looking at a five-star property that actually lives up to its reputation, which honestly isn’t always the case. The staff greets you with genuine warmth, not that rehearsed hotel smile you get at some luxury places.
Prime Riverside Position
The location on East Wangjiang Road is honestly brilliant — you’re right in Shangcheng District where the city’s energy meets the tranquil riverfront. What I love about this spot is how you can walk along the Qiantang River promenade in the morning, then easily hop over to West Lake (it’s actually closer than you’d think). The couples who stay here seem to get it — there’s something romantic about watching the river from your window, especially during sunset. You know what’s great? The hotel sits perfectly positioned so you avoid the tourist chaos but you’re still connected to everything that matters in Hangzhou.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in had floor-to-ceiling windows that made the space feel enormous, even though it wasn’t the largest suite available. The design strikes this nice balance between modern luxury and local character — think clean lines with touches of silk and jade tones. What really impressed me was the attention to detail: the bathroom amenities, the way the lighting adjusts throughout the day, even the quality of the linens. There’s parking available right at the hotel, which is honestly a relief if you’re driving in Hangzhou’s busy streets.
Dining and Amenities
The breakfast buffet deserves its own mention — it’s this sprawling affair that covers everything from traditional Hangzhou specialties to international favorites. I actually found myself getting up early just to enjoy the selection (and I’m definitely not a morning person). The restaurant spaces feel sophisticated but not intimidating, and the service throughout the hotel maintains that luxury standard without feeling pretentious. The spa facilities are top-notch too, perfect for unwinding after exploring the city’s temples and gardens.
Why Guests Love It
What sets this place apart is how it manages to feel both grand and welcoming at the same time. Recent guests consistently praise the location — and honestly, once you experience how easy it is to reach both the business district and cultural sites, you’ll understand why. The combination of riverside views, genuine luxury touches, and that prime Shangcheng location creates something special. It’s the kind of hotel where you actually look forward to returning at the end of the day, rather than just using it as a place to sleep.
To book a hotel in Hangzhou during lotus blossom season, visitors plan ahead to balance sunrise lake cruises with quiet Lingyin Temple walks.

What could be improved: Location far from city centerExceptional – Marcio from Brazil – 21 May 2025 (10/10)
Location, size of the room, decoration
What could be improved: Employees didn’t speak English wellSleek and neat – Shahnaz from United Arab Emirates – 29 April 2025 (9/10)
Nic- the head of concierge was superb, I considered him as the best ambassador in Hangzhou, he deserves a big promotion as he treated us as one of his family members;
the room view gave us a piece of mind;
At last, we could eat some sort of a food that matches our taste.
What could be improved: Way too far from the airport, the hotel must have a shuttle to pick up his customers and save them the agonyComfortable with friendly and very helpful staff – Virginia from United Kingdom – 22 April 2025 (9/10)
The spacious rooms, river view, excellent western and Chinese choices in Breakfast Buffet, and good value.
What could be improved: Surprising that hotel did not enforce the rule that hotel guests do not wear hotel slippers to breakfast. A few guests even wore their pyjamas!Great place in Hangzhou – Alex_7 from United States – 25 March 2025 (10/10)
Wonderful hotel, amazing structure, courteous staff.
What could be improved: Nothing.Superb – Teo from Singapore – 8 January 2025 (9/10)

What could be improved: All goodVery good – Valerii from Russia – 11 December 2024 (8/10)
Fresh new hotel, clean and comfortable. The stunning view to the Qiantang river.
What could be improved: 2 points dissapointed me:
The safebox in the room was locked when i arrived. A manager tried to open it with an electronic key but failed, said that they woulkd replace the safebox with another one shortly and dissapeared. That was 5.30 pm. Nobody took care about this problem until my checking out the next day noon.
The iron I asked to bring for prepairng my clothes was a little bit overused (a cover of water compartment was absent), and the water was dropping all the time out durng my ironing exercise. I believe that the new hotel could have more well-kept inhouse equipment for guests.Very good – Lira from China – 15 October 2024 (8/10)
I like the interior of the hotel. It was pretty empty during the time I was there.
The staff were super nice and spoke English well
What could be improved: Very poor sound isolation. I could hear staff knocking on the doors of my neighbors as if it was my door!
The service is a bit slow.
The light control panel is weird in response. I needed to press the switch several times.
Saunas didn’t work. The pool was too cold, the jacuzzi was warm
Oh, and there are no convenience shop in walkable distance from the hotel. I find that pretty strange.Exceptional – Suen from United States – 6 October 2024 (10/10)
Room is big and clean, view is nice.
What could be improved: NoneI highly recommend this hotel based on the excellent staff, attentive service, friendly atmosphere, and comfortable room – Jane from Singapore – 2 April 2024 (9/10)
The staff was friendly, approachable, and provided attentive service. Even the chamber maid was extremely helpful. The room was spacious, and I especially liked the hair dryer they provided.
What could be improved: The room has a very strong cigarette smell . Staff offered to change our room but my mother was on wheelchair and it’s inconvenient to move her and we declined it . it was a nice gesture.
