Here’s the thing about Fengqi Road — it’s actually one of those spots where you feel like you’re in the real Hangzhou, not just the touristy bits. You’re close enough to West Lake that it’s an easy walk or quick taxi ride, but you’re also surrounded by local restaurants and shops that most visitors never discover. I mean, there’s a fantastic dumpling place just two blocks away that locals line up for every morning. The parking situation is surprisingly stress-free too — they’ve got their own private lot, which is honestly a godsend in this part of the city.

The Room Experience

My room was on the eighth floor, and while it wasn’t huge, everything felt thoughtfully designed. The bed was actually comfortable (you know how hit-or-miss hotel beds can be), and the bathroom had one of those rainfall showers that actually works properly. What I appreciated most was the soundproofing — Fengqi Road can get busy, but once you close the door, it’s surprisingly quiet. The air conditioning responds quickly too, which matters more than you’d think during Hangzhou’s humid summers. The layout maximizes functionality without feeling cramped.

Breakfast & Dining

The buffet breakfast deserves a mention because it strikes this nice balance between international options and local flavors. Sure, there’s the usual scrambled eggs and toast, but they also do proper congee with all the fixings, and their steamed buns are legitimately good. I actually found myself looking forward to breakfast, which doesn’t always happen at hotels. The restaurant area gets decent natural light too, so it doesn’t feel like you’re eating in a basement. The quality of ingredients is noticeably above average for this category.

What really sets this place apart is how it feels like a local secret that happens to welcome travelers. The location score of 9.4 makes total sense when you experience it — you’re genuinely well-positioned for both sightseeing and getting a feel for everyday Hangzhou life. Couples seem to particularly appreciate the quieter neighborhood vibe compared to staying right on West Lake where it can get pretty hectic. It’s one of those hotels where you end up having a better time than you expected, partly because your expectations weren’t set impossibly high, and partly because they just do the fundamentals really well.   What could be improved: On booking.com the hotel appears as ‘EBO Hotel – West Lake’ but on Amap and chinese apps the hotel actually appears as ‘Yibo’ hotel so take care to find the right hotel! Also, the room key activates the in room entertainment/radio which is not really needed.

  Location was perfect, right beside a metro station, 7/11. The room was a nice size, bed comfortable. Very soundproofing, didn’t hear anything from other rooms and outside.
  Breakfast was great as well, more catered to asian, but really good. Close to shopping centres and plenty of restaurants as well. All in all, great!
