SSAW Boutique Hotel Hangzhou Wildwind Overview

First Impressions

Walking into SSAW Boutique Hotel Hangzhou Wildwind, you immediately sense this isn’t your typical business hotel. The lobby has this sleek, contemporary vibe that feels distinctly modern Chinese — think clean lines mixed with subtle artistic touches that actually work. It’s a four-star property, but honestly, the design feels more upscale than that rating might suggest. The staff greeted me in both Mandarin and English, which was reassuring since my Chinese is pretty much limited to “hello” and “thank you.”

Location & Getting Around

The hotel sits on Shaoxing Road in Xiacheng district, and I have to say, the location really delivers. You’re close enough to Hangzhou’s main attractions without being stuck in the tourist chaos — West Lake is about a 15-minute taxi ride away, which isn’t bad at all. What I loved most was how walkable the immediate neighborhood is. There are local eateries, convenience stores, and that authentic street life you want when you’re exploring a Chinese city. The parking situation is actually great too — they have their own private lot, which is honestly a relief if you’re planning to rent a car.

The Room Experience

My room was on the eighth floor, and I was pleasantly surprised by how spacious it felt. The design continues that boutique aesthetic — modern furniture, good lighting, and a bathroom that’s actually bigger than what you’d expect. The bed was comfortable (I’m picky about mattresses), and the air conditioning worked perfectly, which matters a lot during Hangzhou’s humid summers. You know what really impressed me though? The soundproofing. Even with the city noise outside, I slept really well.

Breakfast & Dining

The breakfast spread focuses on Asian cuisine, which I actually preferred over the usual international buffet nonsense. They do congee really well, and there’s a decent selection of local dishes alongside some Western options if you need your coffee fix. The restaurant area gets busy around 8 AM, so I’d suggest going a bit earlier or later if you want a more relaxed meal. The staff keeps everything well-stocked, and the quality is consistently good — not just hotel food, if you know what I mean.

Why Guests Love It

I can see why couples rate this place so highly — there’s something intimate about the scale and design that makes it feel special without being pretentious. The location really is the star here; you’re positioned perfectly to explore both the traditional and modern sides of Hangzhou. Plus, the value is solid for what you get. It’s a well-run, stylish place to stay that delivers on quality and design. The combination of thoughtful design, genuine hospitality, and that sweet spot location makes it work really well for travelers who want something beyond the standard hotel experience.

Savvy travelers reserve a hotel in Hangzhou before autumn brings golden ginkgo trees, chrysanthemum blooms, and crisp mountain air.

Reviews of SSAW Boutique Hotel Hangzhou Wildwind

  • Superb breakfast, friendly staff, and comfortable staying – Jony from Australia – 13 May 2025 (9/10)

The location of the hotel is so close to the subway station called Datieguan. There was a mini market close to the main entrance, Starbucks, and 7Eleven. And if you would walk further down, you could find more shops and restaurants. However, if you're coming from Datieguan subway station (Exit F), you will barely find any shops or restaurants. It's all barren and you would find it very challenging to walk with your big suitcases due to plenty of scooters and bicycles being parked on the pedestrian sidewalk.

About the hotel, the staff were friendly and helpful. The welcome tea drink was very good. Our hotel room was spacious, and clean. We were staying in the family suite, and the room location was right at the corner which was the major plus point for us as we got the 180 degree view. We love the big bathtub too. TV channels were abundant and they had some movies in English or Chinese with English subs.

About the breakfast; although their breakfast had limited choices, we must admit they were delicious and different everyday – so we didn't feel bored with the limited breakfast options. We could also ask the Chef to make something for us (as long as he had the ingredients) and we always asked the Chef to make us noodles (dry / soup). We also want to give a big praise to one of the waitresses who was so friendly and helpful during our stays. I don't remember her full name, but I remember her middle name which was Hai 海

What could be improved: Of all the positive things above, the one thing that I want to emphasis is that the staff's lack of English capability makes it very challenging to communicate. Fortunately, I can rely on the translator app, and they were very patient about it.

The laundry machines were free, but there were only 2 washing machines and 2 dryers. So best of luck finding a free machine.

  • Give Wildwind a try! – Clive from Singapore – 30 November 2024 (9/10)

Nice hotel. Big room. Comfortable and all the needed stuff are there. Clean environment and good housekeeping. Breakfast is simple but excellent; nice balance between local and international food. Staff are friendly and helpful.

    What could be improved: Nothing.

  • Nice hotel in city. Modern hotel in skyscraper. – Sergey from Kazakhstan – 6 October 2024 (10/10)

Great rich breakfast on high floor. Bath in meddle of room. Japonice style of room. Free tee and coffee in room, fruit compliment. Metro Station is near.

What could be improved: Price can be cheaper.

  • Excellent hotel not too far from the city – Mark from Singapore – 27 December 2023 (10/10)

The warmth and attention to detail of the hotel staff are excellent. We love that they even have turn down services. The rooms were huge even though it was only about 18min by train to the city. Everything we needed were provided and they even had a lovely gift back for our child.

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Lovely, quiet hotel with friendly, helpful staff. – Susanna from United Kingdom – 11 November 2023 (9/10)

Decor was lovely, really clean. Staff were friendly and helpful. Really lovely hotel. They even offered me a free upgrade! I would recommend this hotel in a second.

What could be improved: A fair way from downtown (maybe like 20/ 24 mins in a DiDi) but not too much of a problem.

  • Superb – Xi from China – 17 October 2023 (9/10)

    自助洗衣, Nice reception staff.

What could be improved: The air conditioner in my room does not work well. Some housekeeping staff knocks the door when the DO NOT DISTURB sign is on.

  • Fine! – Keiko from Japan – 2 October 2023 (8/10)

    It’s simple but enough.

  • Staff are nice and helpful – Kwong from United Kingdom – 4 August 2023 (10/10)

The room was much bigger than my expectations especially the big bathtub and very spacious shower room. The staff were very friendly and always gave us lots of free drink during our stays. Coke, tea, beer, milk and mineral water for example. Breakfast was really good with lots of choice.

What could be improved: The only thing that I can say is that I did not find any tea bag or English tea bag for our breakfast.
